Meteorological Day 2026 with Student Outreach
Gangtok, March 23: The India Meteorological Department’s Meteorological Centre in Gangtok commemorated World Meteorological Day 2026 at its Meteorological Observatory located in Lok Bhawan, under the theme “Observing Today, Protecting Tomorrow.”
As part of the celebration, students from Baha'i School Tadong were invited to the observatory for an educational visit. Officials conducted interactive sessions introducing the students to key aspects of weather science, including wind measurement, air pressure, humidity, and other meteorological observations.
The initiative aimed to enhance awareness among young learners about the importance of weather monitoring and its role in understanding climate patterns. It also sought to inspire students to take an active interest in environmental responsibility and the science behind forecasting and disaster preparedness.
Officials highlighted that such outreach programmes play a crucial role in building scientific curiosity and fostering a sense of responsibility towards climate and environmental protection among the younger generation.
